However, when we Chinese (especially those who watch Japanese anime) hear the term 动画, most people would assume you're talking about Japanese animation. Some sites make this more clear by adding the word "Japanese" or "Japanese/Korean" before 动画. We also have a loan word from/for cartoon: 卡通. Anything that is an animated cartoon. 漫画 in Chinese (Mandarin) and 漫画 in Japanese are the same and mean about the same thing. Stories drawn in books. AKA comics (for the most part). Unless its different in Cantonese? | |
